A Company of Girls Ensemble Group is excited to present our “Family Traditions” Art Project at Local Sprouts throughout the month of May!  As part of the project, each girl led the group in cooking a recipe that is a tradition in their family, from Sudanese Rice and Beans, to Maine Whoopie Pies. This not only offered an opportunity to teach the girls about the varied cultural backgrounds of their friends and neighbors, but it also employed an important leadership component.  By giving each girl the opportunity to become a leader for the day, they worked on important life skills such as time management, organization, delegation and public speaking, allowing them to become stronger and more confident young women! The cooking part of the project was followed by reflecting and writing about their experience, as well as about the recipes meaning to each girl and her family. The project culminated in large hand illustrated recipe pages in watercolor paint that will be on display so that each girl can remember and share their recipe with others.  We will also be producing a recipe book that captures the entire project!
